Conveying material Ferrous and non-ferrous metals

Overview

At its slag processing plant in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, the AGR Group generates around 30,000 tons of ferrous and non-ferrous metals from waste incineration slag every year.

Such recovery is usually carried out by means of various screens and the use of magnets, which can be designed as overband or drum magnets. The entire equipment is exposed to extremely high stresses in this process: Ash dust, sharp-edged metal residues, as well as the corrosive compounds formed on contact with moisture make it necessary to use extremely reliable conveyor components, as this is the only way to ensure the smooth operation of the equipment for years to come.

Solution

The company uses TM400 drum motors with a drive power of 3 to 11 kW in its 35 conveyor belt systems with a width of 650 to 1400 mm and a throughput capacity of 150 t/h. The motors are used at the conveyor head of the conveyor and replace one of the two return drums for the belt. There is no longer anyneed for side-flanged motors whose cooling fins have to be cleaned to ensure operational reliability. Central drives with costly and vulnerable secondary drives can also be eliminated.

Benefits

The TM400 drum motor generation with 2.2 to 15.0 kW rated power offers high eÞciency thanks to efficient electric motors. Both operating costs and the CO2 balance can be significantly improved as a result. The already very reliable continuous operation of the bulk material handling systems has been further optimized by optimized bearings of the gear components, which further increases the already high reliability (Mean Time Between Failure /MTBF) of the TM400 drum motors from Rulmeca.
